In memoriam: Harold M. Henderson, M.D.
Harold M. Henderson, M.D.
Dr. Harold M. Henderson, professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, died July 5 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 61.
A native of Clarksdale, Henderson was raised in Iberia, Missouri and the New Orleans area. He graduates from Tulane University in 1979 and earned his M.D. at the LSU Medical School in 1984. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama and his fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Cincinnati.
He joined the UMMC faculty in 1991. An expert in the treatment of patients with HIV, Henderson was a talented teacher and trained many new doctors to care for patients with infectious diseases. He was the co-founder of the RideABILITY Therapeutic Riding Center in Brandon where he worked with special-needs children learning to ride horses and maintaining the farm facilities.
Funeral services were July 9 at Ott and Lee funeral home in Brandon with interment in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon. In lieu of flowers, Henderson’s family suggests memorial donations may be made to the RideABILITY Therapeutic Riding Center, 117 RideABILITY Lane, Brandon, 39042.
